Windemuller Names Steve Alles as New President
WAYLAND, MI, December 6, 2021 – Windemuller, an advanced technical and design services provider, has announced a change to its company leadership.
Steve Alles will become the fourth president in company history, succeeding Dave Beemer in the role. Alles, who has served as Windemuller’s chief financial officer since 2010, is the grandson of Ed Windemuller, who co-founded the company in 1954. He has been a part of the business, in some form, for more than 25 years.
“I’ve known for a long time that Steve has a sharp financial mind and a lot of love for Windemuller – the company that is, for him, ‘the family business,’” Beemer said. “Since 2010, I’ve seen that Steve is not only those things, but also an incredibly well-rounded leader with an innate instinct for how to get the best out of people. He understands the importance of teamwork and strong company culture, which are central tenets to what we do here at Windemuller. I have no doubt that I am leaving the ship in capable hands.”
Alles started at Windemuller in June 1994, working in the company warehouse during the summer before his sophomore year of high school. He continued working for Windemuller on and off during his high school and college years. After earning bachelor’s degrees in business administration and psychology from Hope College in 2001, Alles worked in corporate banking for a year before returning to Windemuller in September 2002 to take on an accounting role. When his dad, Chuck Alles, retired from the role of CFO in 2010, Beemer offered him the job.
“I am honored and humbled to be the next president of Windemuller,” Alles said. “I am grateful for my predecessors who established and cultivated Windemuller into what it is today, an innovative technical service provider. As I’ve worked closely with Dave Beemer over the years, I’m thankful for his steadfast leadership and integrity. I am excited to lead our team, and will be dedicated to keeping Windemuller a company that prioritizes its community, customers, and employees.”
Beemer, who has led Windemuller as president since 2005, will step down from that role at the beginning of 2022 but will stay on as chairman of the board. He will work with Alles to plan for Windemuller’s future, which includes growth in all service areas – electrical, automation, communications, information technologies, outdoor utilities, and renewable energy – with a particular focus on renewable projects.
As Alles prepares to take the role of president, he has handed off his CFO duties to Rob Groothuis, previously the CFO at Zeeland Lumber & Supply. Groothuis joined the Windemuller team in August and has been learning the ropes at the company ever since. He is now handling most of the day-to-day responsibilities of CFO.
“Rob was the first choice to take over the CFO role,” Alles said. “He has great construction industry experience, knows a lot of the players in our industry, and has hit the ground running in his new position. I look forward to having him on the team for this new chapter.”
